The prayer card for a friend came in the mail, at the most opportune moment. It read: "She fulfilled the goal of life To die young As late as possible." My friend was 92 at the time she left our world, and yes, from all I knew about her, She died young. I had just posted a "Mea Culpa" to someone absent from my world. as I attempted to restore a fractured relationship. Searching for appropriate words of apology, I recalled the magical days of yore we once shared. For the brief span of a second while attempting to express "je regrette,"I managed to relinquish the trappings of age. The incredible tentacle of time that envelopes each of us without pity as moments spin by and life is lost forever, seemed to disappear briefly. I realized that whatever offense or rancor that either she or I had inflicted had no justification for the loss of the many happy moments we once shared. Being allowed to share the miracle of youth even for a brief time, was truly a gift to be savored regardless of how quickly it evaporated. Today's unexpected arrival of the small card was an important message that I must not ignore nor forget. The memorable words now captured on my cell phone will remind me daily of what must be my goal for whatever time I am granted I now pray that I, too, may die young, embracing the miracle of life rather than relinquishing it to regret.
