GREAT NECK, NY — Following a night of heavy rainfall due to Tropical Depression Ida, the Long Island Rail Road has resumed service on all lines except the Port Washington line. At a press conference on Thursday, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said the Port Washington line "has been disrupted considerably" by Ida and that crews are working around the clock to get trains back on track. Speaking at the Great Neck train station around noon, Hochul said the transit system hopes to provide some updates in the next few hours. Stunning videos of flooding on Great Neck roads and at the town's train station have been circulating on social media. This was an all too common scene following Ida's remnants. Sheesh. pic.twitter.com/IDnFm2UNnV— Matt Hammer (@MattHammer12) September 2, 2021 Ida dumped historic amounts of rain on parts of Long Island Wednesday night, causing multiple floods, power outages, and even a mudslide. Although New York City and the Hudson Valley were hit the hardest, parts of Long Island — especially on the North Shore — were also deluged with rainwater. Some areas received nearly seven inches of rain in just a few hours. "What we saw last night was nothing short of unprecedented," Hochul said. "The record rainfall that precipitated — the situation we have here in Great Neck as well as what we've seen from here all the way to Suffolk (County), to the five boroughs, to Rockland (County), to Putnam (County), to Westchester (County) — it was an unbelievable amount of rainfall in an incredibly short amount of time."
