PLAINFIELD, IL — A 27-year-old Plainfield man confessed to robbing an older woman during a police investigation, officials said. He was charged with the crime Tuesday following an investigation of the June 20 robbery. Around 2 a.m. June 20, a woman returned to her home in the 22500 block of Bass Lake Road when she was approached by a man, later identified as Silva. After a "verbal interaction," he left but came back shortly with what looked like a black handgun, according to Plainfield Detective Sergeant Kevin McQuaid. Police said he pointed the gun at the woman and "forcefully" stole her bag, which contained money and credit cards. The woman wasn't injured, police said. McQuaid said "a few hundred dollars" was stolen from the woman's purse, but didn't give more specifics. During an investigation, McQuaid said officers found someone had used her credit cards to make online purchases, which police tracked to Silva and his address in the 25000 block of Brigade Lane. "Based on the information we had, we were able to obtain a search warrant for the house and his car," McQuaid told Patch. When police searched Silva's house and car Tuesday, they found evidence connecting him to the armed robbery. In an interview, Silva confessed to police he committed the robbery, McQuaid said. On Tuesday, Silva was charged with aggravated battery, armed robbery, theft, and aggravated identity theft, according to Will County Sheriff's Office records. Silva was taken to the Will County Adult Detention Center with his bail set at $10,000. (For more news and information like this, subscribe to the Plainfield Patch for free.
