Unveiling Of 9/11 Memorial Scheduled In Cathedral City

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA — A memorial recognizing the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks will be unveiled next week at the new Cathedral City Fire Station. The memorial, a 12-foot-tall homage to the World Trade Center Twin Towers, will be unveiled at 8:15 a.m. Sept. 11 at Fire Station 411, 68950 Buddy Rogers Ave. The ceremony will conclude with a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., recognizing the time the first plane struck the World Trade Center in New York City. The memorial was designed by Cathedral City Fire Capt. Corey Goddard and fabricated by Jason Carlin, a local businessman, according to the city. The memorial will pay respect to those who lost their lives at the World Trade Center, including hundreds of first responders. A 9/11 Memorial Plaque will also be unveiled, honoring those who died and the thousands more who were injured at the World Trade Center complex, at the Pentagon, and on United Flight 93 that crashed in rural Pennsylvania. Face coverings will be required for those attending the event.
