Marin Murder Suspect Accepts Guilty Plea: Report

SAN RAFAEL, CA — A 19-year-old Fairfax man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder charges in connection with a 2018 San Rafael shooting that killed 21-year-old Errol Matthew Friedman of San Anselmo, The Marin Independent Journal reports. Daniel James Diaz was 17 at the time of the shooting, but a Marin County Superior Court judge granted a prosecutor's petition to try him as an adult according to the report. Diaz's sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 21, according to the report. Under terms of the plea deal, Diaz's conviction will not include gun enhancement charges, meaning he could be eligible for parole in less than 10 years, the report said. Had he been convicted of murder with a gun enhancement charges, Diaz could have been sentenced to 40 years to life. Read more in The Marin Independent Journal
