ELMHURST, IL — A woman's wallet was apparently stolen when she was distracted while shopping at an Elmhurst grocery store, police said. Video footage showed a man in a motorized scooter distracting the woman while another man approached the woman's shopping cart and walked away with an item in his left hand, according to a police report. It happened shortly before 3 p.m. Monday at Jewel, 944 S. York St. The woman filed a report the next day. According to the report, the woman immediately contacted credit card companies. She discovered that money had been withdrawn from her savings account and a charge was made to one of her credit cards. The man who took the item was described as black and wearing a white dress shirt with a tie, black pants and a hat. The other one was described as black, 30 to 45 years old, 5-foot-10 to 6-foot-2, heavy-set, and wearing a colored striped shirt and long shorts. The case is pending an investigation.
