Eco-Friendly Arts Festival Coming To UWS: What To Know

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — An environmentally-friendly arts festival is set to take place on the Upper West Side on Saturday, Sept. 18, organizers announced Thursday. The Jody Sperling/Time Lapse Dance and The Columbus-Amsterdam Business Improvement District will join forced to present the Amsterdam Eco/Arts Festival on the Open Boulevard at Amsterdam Avenue between 109th and 110th Streets. The festival will be in honor of Park(ING) Day, an annual global event where people transform parking spaces into public places for people. The free public dance and music performances will also feature community planting, art, karate and Zumba workshops, family games and more. The afternoon will kick off at noon with a "Love Your Street Tree Day" performance and members of the Business Improvement District leading a tree bed educational walking tour from 106th to 110th Streets. At 3 p.m. Jody Sperling/Time Lapse Dance (TLD) presents new ecologically centered work, "Plastic Harvest," a collaboration between choreographer Jody Sperling and composer Matthew Burtner that investigates plastic pollution.
