UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Thousands of Upper East Side residents had their voltage reduced on Thursday and were asked to avoid using electricity while utilities made repairs following Wednesday's devastating rainstorm. Con Edison said Thursday afternoon that 78,200 customers on the Upper East Side and East Harlem had their voltage reduced by 5 percent while the company repaired equipment damaged during the floods that swept the city. The company asked residents to avoid using energy-intensive appliances such as microwaves, washers and dryers, and to limit the use of air conditioners, while the repairs were being done. .@ConEdison is reducing voltage in areas of the Upper East Side, Yorkville, East Harlem, and Carnegie Hill in northern Manhattan.
