MICHIGAN — The Michigan Department of Natural Resources reminded travelers on Wednesday to use caution on northern Lower Michigan trails due to recent storms. Recent heavy rainfall and high winds have knocked down lots trees and tree branches, creating hazardous obstacles on many northern Michigan trials, especially in Lake and Wexford counties, the DNR said in a news release. "The trails could be dangerous particularly for motorized trail users who come upon unsafe trail conditions quickly," Scott Slavin, the Northwest Lower Peninsula trails specialist for the DNR Parks and Recreation Division said. "We urge ORV riders to slow down, take corners with extra caution, watch for potential hazards and stay on designated trails." The DNR also said they will put up blockades and closure signs in areas deemed unsafe for trail users, while they and many volunteers assess the damage. Trail users can also check Michigan.gov/DNRClosures for updates and can report significant obstructions or erosion to Jessica Holley-Roehrs, DNR Parks and Recreation statewide motorized trails specialist.
