TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Police Department has assigned officers to extra patrols of the Strip this weekend in an effort to combat loitering, overcrowding, open container and other violations reported over the past couple weekends. This will coincide with the Crimson Tide kicking off the 2021 football season in Atlanta on Saturday. Click here to subscribe to our free Tuscaloosa Daily newsletter and breaking news alerts TPD says its officers have noticed an increasing number of people consuming alcohol on the sidewalks and streets along University Boulevard, in addition to crowds gathering in parking lots and on sidewalks, both of which are violations of city ordinances. The department went on to say officers will issue citations or make arrests if it becomes necessary, before asking that people with no intention of entering a business refrain from visiting or loitering in the area. In another reminder, TPD also said a citywide curfew remains in placed for 10p.m. for people 18 and under on Thursdays and 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
