Description
Cherry is being rehomed because he does not get along well with our other tortoise. We took him in thinking that He was a She with the intention of possibly breeding and rehoming more of these (near threatened) creatures. However as she aged, her tail elongated and she started to show more aggressive, male like behavior towards our other male. He will need to be an only tortoise, as he is known to bite (never humans, handles well) he is just aggressive/territorial when it comes to sharing his space with other tortoises.
Since Hermann's tortoises are an exotic pet, I feel it's important to note that these tortoises are a weed/plant eating species and will need fresh greens and weeds daily and a special diet over the winter months including dried leaves, store bought lettuces/herbs and *grassland or *mazuri tortoise foods. They should not be given fruit or fleshy vegetables (as they are not a fruit eating species) and they do not eat animal protein. He will need a tortoise house or terrarium at least 6 by four feet, as anything less would be restrictive to his needs. He is two years old, but will live to be 50+ (a lifelong commitment and a lifelong friend).
I hate to let him go, I love this boy, but the fighting has become dangerous and he is the main instigator. I will need to see photos of where he will be staying (terrarium) in order for me to feel comfortable letting him go.... this guy needs an experienced reptile keeper who has the patience, finances and space to care for him. Rehoming fee is 100$ but negotiable. We purchased him for nearly 300 but we just want to see him go to a caring, and forever home. Please text. -Miranda
