Job Summary: The Field Superintendent is a versatile position where hands-on Commercia/Residential Roofing experience and leadership skills will be demonstrated as key factors in the role. This is a key position with its foundation in the management of people. The individual is expected to establish positive rapport, credibility, trust, and respect throughout the organization with colleagues, partners, vendors, and customers. The Field Superintendent demonstrates a strong business acumen in the decisions made to achieve project objectives and performs professionally and ethically while ensuring projects are completed in the best of craftsman standards. Supervisory Responsibilities: • Manage Lead Roofers and Roofing Technicians on daily tasks related to roofing repair and installation. • Reviews and approves team member timecards to ensure accuracy. • Reviews and approves credit card and gasoline card transactions regularly. • Recommends applicants for employment. • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive. • Makes recommendations and performs coaching, disciplinary actions, and terminations as approved. Duties/Responsibilities: • Oversees general operations for all commercial and residential roofing projects to ensure the company meets its operational goals. • Directs daily work schedules to ensure coverage at each site and communicates work schedule to leads. • Coordinate project activities to meet Company goals on all projects by ensuring that projects are completed in a timely manner and within the projected budget. • Provides information to each department as needed to ensure consistent workflow through each job phase. Departments include Estimating, Accounting, Customer Service, Purchasing and Human Resources. • Works alongside Purchasing department to coordinate the timely purchase and delivery of materials to ensure that projected timelines remain on schedule. • Works with Estimating department to ensure that jobs are profitable by accurately evaluating job costs and anticipating additional expenditures. • Provides real-time information to team members on current job progress/status, scheduling projections, completion dates, change orders, profitability/budget updates, and other information related to roofing projects. • Determines staffing levels according to short and long-term projects. • Encourages strong communication between departments to ensure workflow in alignment with the organization’s goals. • Provides or recommends training for installation of new roofing systems on commercial and residential projects as needed. • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of roofing installation, materials and tools required to perform roofing jobs. • Provides direction to Lead Roofers and Roofing Technicians on the necessary requirements to repair existing roofs, in addition to the replacement of roofing materials. • Conducts on-site inspections to ensure compliance with safety requirements, job progress, quality control, and cleanliness of site that meets Company standards. • Addresses high-level partner and client concerns related to scheduled, current and past jobs. • On occasion, performs field-related tasks that include roofing repair and installation. • Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities: • Written and Verbal Communication skills that convey respect and trust at all levels of the organization, including partners, vendors and customers. • Demonstrate strong and respectful negotiation skills with vendors and partners. • Ability to establish goals for the organization and for field team members that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time driven. • Adaptable disposition with competing priorities and evolving needs within the organization. • Demonstrates a self-starter disposition and able to work independently. • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. • Availability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings, especially during seasons with additional service needs. • Must be proficient in the use of project management, operations, and administration software including MS Project, MS-Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PPT), Companycam, timecard approval software, and similar tools. • Advanced math, reading and comprehension skills. • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. • Safety Compliance (Cal-OSHA) and Quality Control experience required. • Excellent driving record to meet state and company driver requirements. Education and Experience: • College course completion or college degree preferred. • 5-10 years of experience in roofing required. • 5 years of experience in a leadership role. • Corporate/Main office experience – small-to-mid size company background, companies with 100-250 employees. • Strong communication skills for both office and field environments. • Installation and application of roofing systems required. • Solar systems installation experience preferred. • Gutter installation experience preferred (different types of metal, how to install gutter systems, aluminum, zinc, galvanized, copper, downspout, etc.) Physical Requirements: • Able to drive for extended periods of time. • Must be able to work at heights of up to three stories near edge of building for extended periods of time. • Physically able to climb, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, push, pull, lift, and carry objects for extended periods of time. • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time to lift and carry roofing materials.
