I don't know where you get your info from but Trump's exit strategy from Afghanistan has been publicly vetted for weeks. It was based on many conditions the Taliban had to fulfill or the agreement would be void and swift military action taken on the Taliban with no mercy given. Bagram air force base would remain under our control and nearly 1,000 of special forces would remain to keep the peace along with our NATO allies. The reason for the May 1st departure was weather conditions in Afghanistan at that time made it hard for the Taliban troop movement, this acting as a buffer to see how things worked out. When Biden changed it to August it gave the Taliban and Pakistan months to stage their troop & supply movement for an easy takeover in the summer. The Afghan military was out maneuvered and planned with Biden's pullout orders and lack of support known, this is why they surrendered quickly. Simply having weapons doesn't make for an effective military. The reason for Trump negotiating directly with the Taliban was it's been known by our commanders and intelligence agencies the National Afghan government was corrupt and their military weak. Much has been said about 20 years of training Afghans to defend their country, more than 60,000 of them died in that effort nevertheless their soldiers are not like our own, most can't read or write, have little education and culturally very different than us. A high percentage of them smoke opium and lacked motivation, they were unfortunately there for a paycheck not as patriots. Those who were a part of that negotiation have stressed the fact that a lot of the armament would be removed as well as our civilians prior to our military. In odd but seemingly typical Biden fashion whatever Trump planned or did Biden did the opposite as a total rejection of Trump and his policies. This spelled doom for our Afghan withdrawal which humiliated the US to the world, our allies, putting countless thousands of Afghans and hundreds of US civilians at the mercy of the ruthless Barbaric 7th century thinking Taliban and arming them to the teeth with some of our latest weaponry making them the best armed terrorist group in the world. Much of it will be sold to China, Russia, Pakistan and Iran to be reverse engineered for their own military. This is not a win in any sense of the word, no US soldiered had died in Afghanistan for a year and a half as Trump's policies put the Taliban in check for fear of being decimated. What Biden has done, not only the blatant lying to us for weeks as facts have leaked out is and will remain a national disgrace for decades to come. I get what the first re is saying about trump not being in office to try to fulfill his own May 1st deadline to be out of Afghanistan, but here are a few things to consider. Trump had no plan/exit strategy to pull our troops out of Afghanistan whatsoever. It seems clear that he was not even working on a strategy. If Trump did have a plan/strategy to exit Afghanistan, it is childish and anti patriotic that he did not share it with Biden when Joe took office. Republicans are being critical of Biden's rapid withdrawal from Afghanistan when inn fact if Trump actually did fulfill his own promise to leave, the extraction would have been even quicker. It is sad that people in this nation can not appreciate a win for our nation because they are afraid that a president the they dislike will get credit for it. These days, some people politicize EVERYTHING. Every political leader from both sides wanted out of Afghanistan. Every American wanted out of Afghanistan. Biden pulled us out of Afghanistan. This should not be a political bickering point. This is a win for America regardless of who gains credit for it.
