Description

Margaret Wooster will present her new book Meander: Making Room for Rivers and invite the audience to participate in sharing river stories Margaret Wooster has worked as a watershed planner for local governments and environmental groups in Western New York, was a founding member of Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper, and has taught Environmental Planning at the University of Buffalo. She is also the author of 2 other regional books: Living Waters: Reading the Rivers of the Lower Great Lakes, and Somewhere to Go on Sunday. Meander tells the story of the Great Lakes region's experiment in restoring a complicated natural system of flowing water. She leaves us with the idea that it is up to us, the people who live along these flows and in their watersheds, to learn as much as we can about these connections and to use our local authorities to "make room for rivers" and protect our planet's circulatory system for future generations. Books will be for sale at the event. Come enjoy a cold beverage at one of the most unique bars in Buffalo, nestled next to the Buffalo River and in the shadow of the grain silos. If the weather is fine, we will be in the backyard; if not we'll be in the main bar following COVID protocols. The event is free, but please register so we can arrange the space accordingly. The Nickel City String Band will also perform at this event.
