A mysterious "Father Box" filled with clues has appeared on the grounds of Schuyler Mansion. We need spies to reveal the hidden messages! Schuyler Mansion and the RED Bookshlelf need your help! A mysterious "Father Box" has appeared on the Mansion grounds, filled with coded clues. We need clever spies to help unravel the cryptic ciphers and reveal the hidden messages within the Father Box. You'll learn secret coding techniques used by General Philip Schuyler and his spy network during the Revolutionary War, including how to make and use invisible ink! With our new spy skills at the ready, The RED Bookshelf will lead you to the Father Box, where we'll work together to solve the ciphers together. Afterward, we'll gather together with The RED Bookshelf and participate in a lively reading of a story book. All participants who attend "Spies & Ciphers" will receive a FREE copy of a book of their own. This event is free, but reservations are encouraged in order to maintain social distance guidelines and to be sure we have enough materials for everyone. Covid-19 Safety: Due to substantial transmission of the Delta variant, Schuyler Mansion suggests that visitors wear masks regardless of vaccination status when inside or social distance cannot be maintained. Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site, located at 32 Catherine Street in Albany's historic South End, was the 18th-century home of Revolutionary War Major-General Philip Schuyler (1733-1804) and his family. The mansion is open for tours (reservations required) Wed - Sun until October 31.
