Sample and learn about the tastiest and most interesting rums of the world.
Rum is a curious spirit with varied reputations. Is it a sickly sweet beverage mixed with soda and fit only for college parties? Is it a rough edged and uncivilized potable swilled by pirates of lore? Or is it a sophisticated tipple, best enjoyed in a leather chair, with a gilt-bound book, by a leathery skinned gentleman? It is our hope to dispel all the images, from frivolity to stuffiness, and show how rum is on par with whiskey as one of the world's great spirits.
Anywhere warm enough to grow sugarcane can legitimately make rum. From it’s Caribbean origins to islands on the far side of the world to the shores of South America, high-quality rums are being produced in traditional and innovative ways. With consumers now demanding authenticity as much as marketing prowess, these companies are becoming more transparent than ever about what goes into their bottles. In this class, spirits and cocktail guru Evan Christie will showcase rums from all over the world, produced in a wide array of styles. You will sample these rums while learning all you can about their history, provenance, production, and much more.
COVID-19 Protocols: While we are excited to resume hosting events, we are aware of the risk that remains from COVID-19. Because of this, we are asking that all attendees provide proof of vaccination when they come to the class. The nature of our event makes social distancing and masking impractical, so until advice changes, our classes will be limited to vaccinated customers only.
