Description
The Ghost Walk Returns to East Hill October 3-5Tours leave the Salem Museum every fifteen minutes from 6 to 8pm. VENUE CHANGE FOR THURSDAY ONLY: because of the excessive heat forecast for Thursday, the Ghost Walk will take place at the Museum, mostly inside, on that one evening. Guests will enjoy all the same great stories, but with the comforts of air conditioning--a benefit that many of our Ghosts didn't enjoy in their lifetimes, but have come to appreciate since! East Hill Cemetery comes alive after dark just once a year! Meet "Ghosts" who represent real people, now deceased, and buried in Salem's graveyards. They can't wait to share their stories with you! You will meet… Margie Brown, a mischievous daughter Brigadier General Andrew Lewis, Salem’s Revolutionary War hero Charles Johnston, captured by Indians James Huff, Civil War jailer Underage boys caught in the pool hall Anna Whitner, marched for a woman’s right to vote Jack Simms, stormed Omaha Beach on D-Day Ardelia Wilson, with stories from Water Street Eddie Joyce, Jr, Andrew Lewis High School star quarterback in the famous "Remember the Titans" 1971 state championship football game The Ghost Walk is a walking tour through the cemetery--fun and family-friendly, but not scary. It's a great way to learn more of our region's history, and how real people from times past have had a role in big moments in local, state, and national history! Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students of any age, and free for children three and younger. Ticket tip! The 6:15, 6:45, 7:15, and 7:45 tours tend to be less crowded. Get your tickets now to reserve your preferred tour time. 2019 marks the Ghost Walk’s 21st year and all proceeds benefit the Salem Museum. In case of rain, the event will be held at the Salem Museum. The Salem Museum & Historical Society is an independent, nonprofit organization preserving and celebrating the history of Salem, Virginia, founded in 1802, and the surrounding region. Open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 AM to 4 PM. Admission is free; donations are gratefully accepted!
