READING, MA — Reading PorchFest and the Fall Street Faire Committee have selected the winners of their student writing contest for the upcoming 9/11 ceremony.
The event, which will begin at the Town Common at 11 a.m. on Sept. 11, will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the attacks. Ahead of the ceremony, students were asked to submit writings on the theme "Light in the Darkness."
The three contest winners will read their pieces during the commemoration.
Elementary Winner Eight-year-old Adeline (Addy) Hillery won with her poem "Hope." Addy will be entering 3rd grade at Barrows Elementary School this fall.
Middle School Winner Thirteen-year-old Clara Healy won with her essay "A Sky Full of Stars." Clara will be entering 8th grade at Parker Middle School this fall.
High School Winner Abigail LeBovidge won with her poem "Three Hundred Million Candles." Abigail will be entering her junior year at Reading Memorial High School this fall.
