FRANKLIN, WI — At least three people, former corrections officers, were under investigation for a smuggling scheme at the Milwaukee County House of Corrections. Two people have so far been charged in the investigation, Milwaukee WTMJ 4 reported.
Court documents show Tewan Bailey-Darnell and Jahkiah Grant were charged with felony misconduct and felony smuggling to an inmate. The TMJ4 report shows both were former corrections officers. A third individual has not been charged.
Documents from the investigation obtained by TMJ4 show details of a smuggling scheme where drugs, cell phones, THC vape pens and food were all brought into the jail by corrections officers from January to April 2020.
Corrections officers that were charged started accepting payment to bring the contraband in, a criminal complaint shows, according to the TMJ4 report. Inmates were involved in the scheme as well and benefited from it, the report said.
