Description
FALMOUTH, MA — One person suffered injuries in a fire at the South Cape Motel in Falmouth, according to fie officials.
The fire started around 4:30 a.m., Wednesday at the hotel at 499 Waquoit Highway. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke billowing out the door of one of the motel's rooms.
Fire officials said one person was inside the motel room and escaped on their own, but they suffered burns and needed to be airlifted from Falmouth Hospital to a Boston hospital for treatment.
Fire officials said the fire was small and was contained to the floor of one room. After extinguishing the flames, fire investigators requested the help of the State Fire Marshall's Fire Investigation Unit to help determine the cause.
Investigators found an unknown liquid substance in a plastic container inside the motel room, fire officials said. Out of an abundance of caution, Falmouth fire officials called in the department's hazmat team to evaluate the liquid. It was later determined the liquid posed no danger.
