EAST HARLEM, NY — A Queens was arrested this week and charged in connection with the Memorial Day shooting that killed a teenage boy in East Harlem, authorities said. Shane Lloyd, 33, a Jamaica resident, faces murder and weapons possession charges stemming from the May 31 shooting, which killed 15-year-old Amir James and injured a 30-year-old man. Lloyd was arrested in July in connection with a hit-and-run crash in Queens last year, the Daily News reported. While he served time on Rikers Island for that offense, police reportedly connected him to the Harlem shooting. The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. on the corner of Lexington Avenue and East 123rd Street. James, who lived in the Bronx with his family, was hit in the torso and died at Harlem Hospital. The boy's parents told the Daily News that their son, a sophomore at Thurgood Marshall High School, was not the intended target. He was standing outside a deli where his sister was buying a sandwich when shots rang out, they said. Lloyd's arrest came three months after police released footage showing the alleged shooter running away from the scene of the crime. Authorities offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
