NORWALK, CT — A school bus and a pickup truck sustained minor damages Monday morning after both vehicles' side view mirrors collided while driving along Westport Avenue, according to police.
Police Sgt. Sofia Gulino said the bus was driving west in the left lane of the road around 8:15 a.m. and the truck was driving east. Both vehicles have side view mirrors that stick out, and the mirrors bumped each other as the vehicles passed each other, Gulino said.
No one was injured as a result of the collision, Gulino said. The truck sustained rub marks on the back of the side view mirror and some glass on the bus' mirror broke.
Police were unable to determine any fault due to the street's narrow lanes and a lack of witnesses, Gulino said.
The Norwalk Hour reports students were on the bus at the time of the incident.
The collision occurred on the first day of school for Norwalk Public Schools students, which district officials said ran smoothly despite some minor transportation issues.
Brenda Wilcox Williams, a district spokesperson, said some buses arrived later than scheduled Monday but noted this was common early in the school year. She also said the district will be watching transportation closely this week and work with schools to adjust any arrival and dismissal procedures if necessary.
