LONG ISLAND, NY — A tornado watch has been issued for Long Island as the remnants of Ida slam the region Wednesday. The tornado watch is in effect until 1 a.m. Thursday. Tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. Review and discuss your emergency plans and check supplies and your safe room, the National Weather Service says. A tornado was confirmed to have touched down in Maryland Wednesday afternoon and there have been suspected tornadoes in Pennsylvania and New Jersey as well. On Long Island, a flash flood watch is in effect until 2 p.m. Thursday. Up to 6 inches of rain is possible through Thursday morning.
