Here are the top three stories in Laurel today: Former Prince George's County Executive Rushern L. Baker III will officially kick off his campaign for Maryland governor on Sept. 7. Baker received public endorsements on August 31 from nine of the 11 members of Prince George's County Council in a parking lot near the recently opened University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center in Largo. His decision to run again is fueled by his concerns about the disparities in education and the economy exacerbated by the Coronavirus pandemic. (The Washington Informer)Governor Larry Hogan announced on Sept. 1 the judicial appointment of Carol Ann Coderre to serve on the Prince George's County Circuit Court. Coderre has worked in the Prince George's County Office of Law since December 2018. Her public service legal career started at the House of Ruth in 1997, where she navigated domestic violence victims through the justice system and assisted with domestic violence prosecution.
