BALTIMORE, MD — Public schools in Baltimore City will dismiss students early Wednesday due to the pending storms, officials announced Wednesday morning. All schools will release students three hours before their scheduled end bell time, according to Baltimore City Public Schools. The district office building is slated to close at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1, as well. The Baltimore metro area is on alert as the remnants of Tropical Depression Ida pass through the region. Thunderstorms, damaging winds and tornadoes are possible Wednesday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service. Baltimore is under a flood warning until 10:45 a.m. Authorities said 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain had fallen before 5 a.m. Wednesday, and another 0.5 to 1.5 inches were possible during the warning period. A flash flood watch is in effect for Baltimore until 8 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2. During the flash flood watch period, 2 to 4 inches of rain could fall as the remnants of Ida interact with a stalled front. Up to 6 inches of rain are possible, according to the National Weather Service.
