AUSTIN, TX — Austin Pets Alive! is seeking potential fosters for more than 30 cats and kittens who've been relocated from two Texas shelters in the path of Hurricane Ida. The Austin no-kill animal shelter reports 32 cats and kittens arrived at its shelter Monday and are in need of fosters. The cats were relocated due to the Category 4 hurricane. "We are seeking foster homes and monetary donations to care for the cats and kittens most at-risk of being affected by Hurricane Ida," said APA!'s CEO and President, Dr. Ellen Jefferson. "If you are available to donate for medical care or foster one of these nursing cats and her kittens, or one of the other evacuee animals, you will be saving lives." The Austin no-kill animal shelter reports 32 cats and kittens arrived at its shelter Monday and are in need of fosters. (Courtesy of Austin Pets Alive!)Officials said one of the shelters that was in the path of the storm houses cats in two portable metal buildings which, during past hurricanes, proved insufficient to withstand the high winds. The aftermath of hurricanes in this area can mean two weeks without water, power, and air conditioning. And just like a car on a hot summer day, the temperatures inside these metal buildings can reach deadly levels when operating without AC, authorities said. "APA! needs fosters for the cats and kittens in our care today - and we are asking people to donate to help provide treatment for these Hurricane Ida evacuees," officials said. To find other ways to help, visit APA!'s website to support this mission. Here's how to foster:If you can foster one of the cats or litters of nursing cats and kittens, go directly to the shelter's foster page or fill out this foster application. People can also email [email protected]. Kitties in need:Hallie, Hank and Henderson (one has golden eyes, one has blue eyes and one of the cats - has one golden and one blue eye) were some of the friendly pets who arrived in Austin and are in need of temporary care from fosters in the community. These, along with Betsy, Pedro and many more, will be ready to get out of their crates this afternoon, and go into loving foster homes.
