Funeral Services Set For Austin PD Officer Randy Boyd

AUSTIN, TX — Funeral services are set this week for fallen Austin police officer "Randy" Boyd, who died last week from COVID-19. Senior Police Officer Randolph Boyd will be remembered and honored on Friday with visitation and funeral services at First Baptist Church of Killeen. Full law enforcement honors will follow on the front lawn of the church following the service. A procession will not take place, authorities said. Boyd, who joined the department in 2014, died Wednesday after a "valiant fight" with the coronavirus. He was the first APD officer to die from the deadly virus since the pandemic begun. Boyd, leaves behind a wife and twin sons, officials said. "We find ourselves in a heartbreaking situation and we will come through it as as family. Please keep Randy and his family in your thoughts and prayers and honoring his memory by taking all precautions to keep yourself and your family safe." Following Boyd's death, a second officer died Thursday from the virus. The officer was identified as Senior Sgt. Steve Urias. Urias served the department for more than 31 years and was near retirement before his death, officials said. His service will be announced at a later date. Austin Police Association President Ken Casaday said in a Facebook post Boyd's service to the department will forever be remembered. "Our sincere condolences to the Boyd family, his friends, and working colleagues," the post said.The association said the organization along with Austin Cops for Charities and Peer Support will be assisting the Boyd family during this critical time. Austin Cops for Charities will be starting a fundraising campaign on behalf of the the Boyd family, officials said.
