HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — Hackettstown is one of several towns in Warren County that is expected to undergo a spraying treatment in particular sections, intended to help prevent mosquito-borne illnesses, namely to guard against the West Nile virus. The spraying is planned to begin either during the evening hours on Thursday or on a scheduled rain date on Sunday, from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., according to Hackettstown's Police Department. The police department reports that Deltagard Insecticide will be applied on: East Baldwin Street, Second Street, Third Street, Fourth Street, Fifth Street, Hamilton Drive and Countryside Drive, during that time period. Hackettstown Police states that the truck is identified as a "mosquito commission vehicle," that is equipped with an "ultra-low volume sprayer." The Town of Hackettstown reported that two mosquito samples taken in Hackettstown tested positive for West Nile virus, according to a news release. There have been 16 positive samples for West Nile virus found within Warren County in 2021, the town stated, with peak time for the virus in August. West Nile virus can impact humans and other mammals, with most developing mild symptoms and less than one percent, severe. Horses can be inoculated yearly against it.
