By Jon DePaolis, Richard Free Press: MOKENA, Ill. — A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a burglary that occurred in Mokena in May. Pedro E. Evaristo is being held at the Kane County Adult Justice Center on 18 felony charges, including unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. Additional charges are pending, according to Interim Mokena Police Chief Brian Benton. Evaristo's arrest reportedly is in connection to an incident that occurred in Mokena in May, according to a press release issued by the Mokena Police Department. At around 9 p.m. on May 10, Mokena police responded to a burglary at business located in the 18900 block of Wolf Road. According to the release, the investigation found that equipment was stolen valuing several thousand dollars. "Mokena detectives reviewed data captured from the Flock Safety System and were quickly able to identify a suspect vehicle," the press release stated. "At the same time, surrounding agencies were contacted to see if they experienced any similar burglaries." Detectives learned that similar burglaries occurred in unincorporated Will County, New Lenox, Plainfield, unincorporated DuPage County, Elmhurst and Itasca. "A known Latin King street gang member was identified as a potential suspect through the Flock Safety System of the vehicle, and a joint investigation was initiated between the Mokena Police Department, the Will County Sheriff's [Office] and the Sleepy Hollow Police Department," the release stated. "The monthslong investigation resulted in the execution of a search warrant on a residence in Sleepy Hollow, Illinois in the early morning hours of Aug. 25." A team of approximately 40 officers served the search warrant, including members of the Illinois State Police Tactical Response Team, the Will County Sheriff's Office, the Kane County Sheriff's Office and the Mokena Police Department. "The search warrant resulted in the arrest of one subject, the seizure of a large amount of narcotics, U.S. currency, multiple vehicles, a trailer, multiple firearms, silencers, and other weapons parts as well as over $100,000 worth of stolen property, including items reported stolen during the Wolf Road burglary," the press release stated. "Police have identified at least one other suspect, and the investigation is continuing at this time." Evaristo's bond was set at $500,000 and his next court date is scheduled for Sept. 8.
