'Shark Tank' Star Headed To Elmhurst

ELMHURST, IL — Daymond John, an original co-star on the "Shark Tank" television show, will speak about diversity during a visit to Elmhurst. On Sept. 23, John is set to present "Diversity: A Good Business Practice" for this year's Roland Quest Lecture at Elmhurst University. It's considered a highlight of the school's 150th anniversary celebrations. In the early 1990s, John capitalized on hip-hop culture and launched the FUBU clothing company from his mother's house in Queens, according to a university news release. In 2009, John joined "Shark Tank," a four-time Emmy Award-winning show. John's local presentation is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Sept. 23 in Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel at the university, 190 E. Prospect Ave. Admission is $15 for the public and free for Elmhurst University students, faculty, staff and alumni. After the event, John plans to sign copies of his bestselling book, "Power Shift."
