DEARBORN, MI— Following the Supreme Court's recent ruling that overturned a federal ban on home evictions, the City of Dearborn reminded residents on Twitter they can apply for short-term emergency rental/mortgage and utility assistance. In order to qualify for the program, you must be a Dearborn resident with low to moderate earnings and attribute a loss of income to a COVID-19 related reason. The maximum award per resident household is $5,000 and can be used to covered rent, gas, electricity, water, homeowners insurance and mortgage payments (but not toward a mortgage foreclosure). The program will automatically make the payments to the service providers for no more than six months. Applicants must apply for the RMU grant program through LAHC at https://lahc.org/cares/ The Supreme Court ruled that the federal ban on home evictions will soon expire.
