When did Christian-Fascists take over the Republican Party?

My mother's Republican party, (Dad was a Democrat,) does not exist anymore. It is now a party of those who want authoritarian Christian control of the country. Their ideal would be a Trump-like boss, but who thumps a Bible with one hard, and sends bully boys to bust the heads of anyone who is politically opposed, or who criticizes him or his actions. Many human beings who live in the US, would not be welcome in this Christian-Fascist version of America. This includes trans people, gay people, atheists, Buddhists, Wiccans, black people, muslims, people who believe in science, and people who believe that the Bible is not literally accurate.
