Description

Julie Motkowicz, plant/bug nerd & CREW Trust education coordinator, will walk you through interactions between plants & bugs in SWFL. Southwest Florida supports a diverse community of living creatures. Our state is even named for the abundance of flowers. Without bugs, however, our ecology would be drastically different. Hike with a new perspective that focuses on when plants and bugs collide and you’ll be surprised at the subtle partnerships that surround us! What are those leafy bumps? Do moths build tiny log cabins? Find out during this Strolling Science Seminar. Suggested: please wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. Bring water. Bring a hand lens if you have one! FAQ Is there an age limit for the event? This seminar is suggested for adults 18 and over. Can I bring my dog? The CREW Land & Water Trust was established in 1989 as a nonprofit organization to coordinate the land acquisition, land management, and public use of the 60,000-acre Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed. We work closely with our partners, the South Florida Water Management District and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to ensure the protection of the watershed. This watershed, the largest intact watershed in south Florida, straddles Lee and Collier Counties and provides aquifer recharge, natural flood protection, water purification, preservation of wildlife habitat, and public recreation.  CREW's majestic 5,000-acre marsh is the headwaters for the entire watershed. Members only registration week is SEPTEMBER 1st-8th. Non-members may register after September 8th.
