Description

Join us as we set-up an art installation at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens! Free registration. “Passage: A Reflection of Time and Space” is a series of site-specific installations at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. The art moves visitors to reflect on the passage of time - specifically the last 18 months - and the importance of greenspace in communities as a place of respite and resource. **Masks are optional but recommended for all participating. We will monitor COVID-19 safety guidelines for Washington, DC and the National Public Service and adjust accordingly.** What you will be doing: We need your help to set-up an art installation at the Gardens. There will be heavy lifting involved (wooden logs and large mirrors). We recommend that you only volunteer if you are able to lift up to 20 pounds. Feel free to join us for one or both set-up days! Space is limited for this event due to COVID-19. There will be no walk-up registration. We ask that you only register if you are 100% certain you will be in attendance. We appreciate your patience as we work to maintain the safety of those who will be volunteering. When: Day 1 - Saturday, September 10, 9:00am -12:00pm Day 2 - Saturday, September 11, 10:00am - 1:00pm Where: Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, 1550 Anacostia Ave Northeast, Washington, DC 20019. Getting There: By car, there is a large visitor parking lot at the park entrance on Anacostia Ave and abundant street parking surrounding the park. By Metro, the park entrance is 1.0 miles from the Deanwood Metro Station and 1.3 miles from the Minnesota Ave Station, both on the Orange Line. You can also access the park via the Anacostia River Trail on foot or bike. What we provide: All necessary tools and materials required to complete the installation will be available. Bring with you: Bring a water bottle, snack, and sun protection. Wear shoes and clothing you do not mind getting a little dirty or muddy. Contact: For any questions or concerns reach out to Zerline Hughes Spruill, the Communications and Community Engagement Manager, at [email protected] or 202-876-2992.
