Join us for a detailed talk on a subject too often treated as taboo
What is race and more to the point, why is race? Race talk is everywhere and nowhere; simultaneously the hot topic of the summer and incredibly taboo. But what do you actually know about the subject beyond your own personal experiences and opinions? Who created this thing called race, and for what purpose? How did white people “become” white and at what cost and for what purpose?
Join YWCA Rhode Island and Dover Library for an introductory crash course that will get you deeper into the history and present reality of racial identity and its function in law, policy, citizenship, and social organization from 1790 to 2021.
This event will take place in the Community Room of the DTL, but a livestream will also be available.
