Description

$10/person Welcome back to the Six Foot Love series at The Wild Detectives. A series of live outdoor performances with numbered seats and limited capacity. Tickets: $10/person The vital core of Magga Orchestra and Wiggle Mortis is Gerard Bendiks, who has lived and performed  music in DFW for decades. He is also a drum set teacher, art photographer, composer, and band leader. Before arriving in Dallas he studied music at the Institute of Artistic Perceptions with Alan Silva's Celestial Communications  Youth Orchestra in Paris, France. He continued his music education at TCU and UNT. He's performed/performs etc with Swirve, the Magga Orchestra (and 4tet), Isopod, Dennis Gonzalez, Linny Nance, John Lewis, Jimi Towry, Prince Lasha, John Purcell, the Hazy Days DJ crew, and a long list of others.
Compositionally and in performance, the music of the Magga Orchestra/4tet draws on influences from North and South America, the Middle East, west and central Africa, and the Far East. Nominally a jazz group without borders that performs ear-responsible music by any means necessary The group also performs idiosyncratically respectful versions of other peoples' tunes. Wiggle Mortis incorporates a different layer of movement, embodied in the presence of dancer Ali Honchell. First will be Wiggle Mortis followed by Magga Orchestra.
