Description

Celebrate 5 years of #voluntbeering with us! TL;DR: Sign up here to join us in beautifying Chicago Farmworks with Heartland Alliance and then stay after to celebrate 5 years of #voluntbeering with us! If you've ever thought to yourself, "Boy, I wish I could do Animal Crossing in real life..." then have we got the event for you! Ok to be honest I've never actually played. But I did spend five months on deep lockdown last year with my roommate who only put his Nintendo Switch down to sleep soooo I think I get it: It is outside! There will be plants! We will do manual labor! There will be friends! It will be fun! This is basically gonna be us: SO! CUTE! Don't you wanna be that cute?? Here's all the wholesome AC-adjacent goodness we've got in store for you: Chicago Farmworks with Heartland Alliance Meet up at Chicago Farmworks - 400 N. Albany Ave at 10AMWe'll need 100 volunteers to help us beautify and work a two acre sustainable urban farm that provides food for local pantries and jobs for formerly incarcerated and housing insecure Chicagoans. Get ready to live your best IRL Animal Crossing lives - we'll be doing some weeding, prepping garden beds, planting flowers and more!Plan to bring a mask just in case you're not able to be 6 feet away from folks but there should be plenty of room to social distance. We'll be toiling in the potentially hot hot sun so please remember to bring a hat, sunscreen, and water! It would behoove you to dress appropriately: clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting dirty and perchaps long pants to protect you from weeds and whatnot. If you plan on joining us, do complete this waiver form from Heartland Alliance please and thank you! Afterwards, stay and celebrate our 5 year anniversary at what is sure to be the TURNIP of the year! Get it... turn... up... and we're at a farm... Anyway, join us for food, fun, and festivities! Delicious tacos will be available to purchase from Taco Sublime food truck - and a portion of the proceeds will go to meals for homeless communities.Beer, wine, and non-alcoholic options will be available thanks to generous donations from Great Central Brewing, Revolution Brewing, and our very own Courtney Johnson! There will be games aplenty including beer pong, flip cup, corn hole. We'll have a photo booth, a DJ and almost assuredly Karaoke as well because we can't stop won't stop with that. We'll also have a Silent Auction feat. some fab items you can bid on! I might not have played Animal Crossing (more of a Stardew Valley girl myself, which is basically the Humboldt Park to Animal Crossing's Lincoln Park) but I'm like pretty sure this is gonna be us on September 18th: About the Organizations: Heartland Alliance: Heartland Alliance works in communities in the U.S. and abroad to serve those who are homeless, living in poverty, or seeking safety. We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to engage fully. To request an accommodation or for inquiries about accessibility, please contact Angela at [email protected]. The concept is simple – we volunteer with a different nonprofit organization in Chicago on the second Saturday of every month from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, then spend the afternoon at a local bar for food, drinks, networking and fun with everyone who volunteered. This program was created to give young professionals the opportunity for inspiring, rewarding and impactful experiences that will help forge a passion for future volunteering – both with our organization and on their own. Volunteering Untapped was born out of the realization that young professionals in Chicago want to give back to their community, but simply don’t know the best way to get involved. We solve that problem. Volunteering should be easy. Now it is.
