Description

SALEM, MA — The free "Stop the Spread" coronavirus test site in Salem is on the move. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 7, the walk-up site that opened last August at Old Town Hall will move from the City Hall Annex to St. Peter's Church at 24 St. Peter Street. Testing hours will run Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Salem will continue to host the drive-up testing location at Salem High School on Wilson Street from 4 to 8 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Those coming for walk-in testing are reminded that masks are required in all municipal buildings and indoor locations open to the public in Salem as of Aug. 23. The sites will both be closed on Saturday and Monday for Labor Day weekend. Testing is free of charge to all. No proof of insurance or citizenship is necessary. These are PCR tests conducted through nasal swabs and which are processed at the Broad Institute Laboratory. Those being tested do not need to be symptomatic, quarantining or have been a close contact with someone who has tested positive for the coronavirus to be tested at these two locations. This testing is meant to quickly identify both symptomatic and asymptomatic cases, as well as provide surveillance data for the city and the state. Those with questions about the testing at either location or if results have not been received within 48 hours, can call 617-765-0176 for assistance. Did you find this article useful?
