Description

The Magnolias Bloom Foundation is hosting its 1st Annual Magnolias Bloom Workshop in Lafayette, AL. Alona Decade is establishing the charity division of her company, Magnolias Bloom Foundation to help enlighten, encourage, and empower young Black girls or as we call them young Magnolias, to bloom. For one day, we are hosting our 1st Annual Magnolias Bloom Workshop. Twenty-five young Magnolias, ages 12 to 15, will attend a workshop lead, facilitated, and executed by Black women in and around their community. The workshop will have four individual sessions focused on protection, self-image, courage, and self-awareness for our young Black girls in Lafayette, Alabama. At the end of the workshop, our goal is that our beautiful Black girls feel heard, seen and supported as well as experience personal growth that results in internal and external confidence to walk in the power and purpose. The Foundation’s Workshop Initiative / A Message From Alona Shortly, into my journey as an business owner, I accepted the reality that my company would do much more than sell products to inspire the loc community. God has given me a grander vision to share my story with young Black girls to enlighten, encourage and empower them not to defer their dreams as I did early in life. So, this summer, I am launching The Magnolias Bloom Foundation. The enlightenment that I experienced in 2019 that led to me finally launching my career as a singer-songwriter and business owner was a derivative of inner work that began at age 12. A middle school empowerment workshop shifted how I saw myself and ultimately changed my life, and I want the Magnolias Bloom Foundation to the same for other young Black girls starting with the 1st Annual Magnolias Bloom Workshop. Event Itinerary As we are still crafting the details and getting support for the event, changes are subject to occur. We will be in constant communication with all our sponsors and all the parents if there are any changes. The complete itinerary will be finalized by August 2, 2021. We intend to facilitate the workshop in the following order. Happy Hour – 10:00 am – 11:00 am - All Magnolias are to arrive between 10:00 -10:30 am - Kickoff – I kick things off by discuss the purpose of the workshop, review the itinerary and introducing all our sponsors Guard Our Girls Session – 11:15 am – 11:45 am - Social workers and psychologists will facilitate a discussion geared toward acknowledging the fact that Black girls are assumed to have a higher pain tolerance, considered to be more mature than they actually are and aggressively policed by teachers and authority figures. Parents and/or guardians will be allowed and encouraged to sit in on the discussion as our experts will end the workshop with practical steps, they can take to guard their girls in and outside the home. No Shade Session – 12:00 pm – 12: 30 pm - Image experts will facilitate an exercise designed to confront shadeism, better known as colorism. While all our Magnolias may not consider themselves darker skin, it’s important that they all self-reflect on the prejudice that colorism causes and how it affects their feelings about their beauty. Network & Chill – 12:30 pm – 1:00 pm - Our Magnolias and sponsors will have the opportunities to meet & mingle outside the sessions while enjoying lunch. When I Grow Up Session – 1:00 pm – 1:30 pm - Business coaches, prosperous business owners, athletes and career focused women will hear the career desires of our Magnolias and provide practical action steps that they can start doing now to work toward their goals. We will determine whether parents will be present for this portion of the workshop based on the comfortability of our Magnolias.Black Girls Bloom Session & Makeover – 1:45 pm – 3:00 pm - Make-up artists, hairstylists and models will facilitate a discussion about confidence and the media’s flawed standard of beauty. The girls will be guided through an exercise designed to help them discuss their insecurities, flaws, and areas of concern regarding their image, which will also include a healthy conversation about dating. - As a celebration of our Magnolias inner work throughout the workshop, they will all have their beauty enhanced by make-up artists and hair stylists for makeovers they’ll never forget. Clap & Close – 3:00 pm – 3:30 pm - Our Magnolias will have the opportunity to personally thank our sponsors for their support and guidance. - Oakie Naturals CEO will conclude with a final message. - Our girls, parent(s)/guardians, sponsors, and all event staff will have the opportunity to take pictures.
