Park Slope Gains An Electric Car Charging Station

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A new electric car charging station is now up and running in Park Slope. The charging outpost, found on Prospect Park West, is one of six new stations planned for Brooklyn this year under a Con Edison plan to install more than 100 electric vehicle charging ports across the city, according to Con Ed. The plan for the Brooklyn stations was first announced in 2019, when it gained the support of Community Board 6 as a pilot program. So far, Con Ed has installed the new stations in Park Slope and in Carroll Gardens on Court Street. Stations are also planned for Brownsville, East New York, Greenpoint and Prospect Lefferts Gardens, according to the plans. Con Ed has said the six charging stations are expected to debut in the summer and fall of 2021. In Park Slope, the station is found between Fifth and Sixth street at 99 Prospect Park West. It is available from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. for $2.50 per hour and between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. for $1 per hour, according to Con Ed's find a station tool. The charging station project was put in place with the city's Department of Transportation and the FLO Network.
