Description
FRAMINGHAM, MA — For the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Framingham will host a vigil and memorial display at Cushing Memorial Park.
The event will feature a presentation of colors by the Framingham fire and police department honor guards, remarks and a prayer offering. An estimated 3,000 U.S. flags will be planted on the lawn at the park, representing the 2,996 who died that day.
Framingham's Sept. 11 vigil will reflect all the lives lost, but also the seventeen people with ties to Framingham who died that day: Barbara Keating, Linda George, John Wenckus, Lisa Fenn Gordenstein, Meta Fuller Waller, Neilie Heffernan Casey, Paige Farley Hackel, Robin Kaplan, Tara Shea Creamer, Todd Hill, Susan Mackay, Christine Barbuto, Judith Larocque, Laura Lee Morabito, Herbert Homer, Charlie Murphy and Darin Pontell.
The day will begin with a silent vigil at 7:58 a.m. — the moment the first plane took off — followed by tributes at the times when each plane crashed. The official ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. at Cushing Memorial Park, 80 Dudley Road.
