Greenfield Car Thefts Have Increased Since Last Year

GREENFIELD, WI — The number of cars stolen this year has seen a slight increase over last year. In 2020 there were 89 cars stolen. So far in 2021, there have been 105 cars stolen, the Greenfield Police Department said. Kia and Hyundai models are the most affected by the increase in stolen cars, the Greenfield Police Department wrote. In a Facebook post, the Greenfield Police Department reminded residents how to avoid becoming a victim. "As many of you are aware, we are not the only city that has been affected by the recent upticks in vehicle thefts, the Department wrote in its post. "Many of these vehicles are Hyundai and Kia models. Yes, we know hard to believe the hamster mobiles are even being stolen." A majority of the cars that have been stolen in the Milwaukee area are Kia or Hyundai. Two-thirds of vehicle thefts in the City of Milwaukee were either of those two car makes, UrbanMilwaukee.com reported. In Milwaukee, car thefts trending to levels never before seen. Thousands of cars have been stolen and the trend is reaching toward a new record, Urban Milwaukee reported. In Greenfield, the issue is not as big as in Milwaukee. Cars are still being stolen from the area at an increased rate, though. The Greenfield Police Department offered some tips for people to avoid theft: Call the non-emergency police number when you see suspicious activity.Do not leave valuables in your car.Lock your vehicle. Park in a well-lit area.
