Description
The Driver/Support Service Worker assist clients at the Helen Vine Recovery Center by utilizing the agency’s van to bring them to services outside of the center. The Driver may also provide other support services if approved by the Program Director. Consistently supports the mission and objectives of Buckelew Programs by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, and Buckelew policies and procedures. RESPONSIBILITIES: Communicate with staff to schedule and safely transport clients, obeying all traffic laws, for services and other planned trips as directed by the Program Director.Assist with the safe loading and seating of clients onto and off of the van making certain that all residents are properly secured before driving.Conduct daily inspection and safety checks on van before the first use and following the final use of the day. Schedule regular maintenance as necessary.Ensure that the van is in proper operational order, registration and insurance information is present and up-to-date and promptly report any/all safety, mechanical or maintenance issues to supervisor.Maintain communication with the program through use of cell phone or other means to always keep in contact on client location and status as necessary.Maintain confidentiality of all services. Set and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.Pick up medications, document in medication log and assist counselors in tasks as assigned. Demonstrate a positive and professional image at all times through dress and behaviors; display tact and friendliness when dealing with clientsManage drop-in emergencies, evaluate and determine the need to call 911 when necessary.Attend supervision meetings with Program Director.Participate in staff trainings and all staff meetings.Maintain structure of the facility and understand the mission of the program and agency and always work towards it. QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and at least one year work experience, preferably in a service industry driving capacity. Experience in relating to clients with substance abuse in a friendly and positive way, including setting boundaries. Certification as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor or currently in the process of obtaining the Certification (CAARH or other training approved by The State Department of Alcohol/Drug Programs) preferred. Recent and/or relevant experience working with the population of the mentally disabled and dual-diagnosed population is preferred. Have proven knowledge and understanding of AA/NA Twelve-Step programs and resources. Skills and Abilities: Age 18 and over as required by agency insurance policy.Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as with a team.Working understanding of highly confidential environments and ability to maintain confidentiality.Requires a valid California driver’s license and an insurable DMV record.Good communication skills including the ability to speak, write and read English. Bilingual English/Spanish desirable.Ability to perform basic clerical work as required by the position. Must be computer literate.Must display genuine concern for the physical and emotional needs of clients.Ability to deal tactfully and professionally at all times with personnel, clients, family members, guests and the general public.First Aid/CPR trained (or ability to obtain and maintain certification). Pay & Benefits: Hourly pay is $19.00 per hour.
