"I made this disaster inevitable by already pulling much of our billions of dollars and equipment out and, more importantly, reducing our military presence to less than 2,000 troops from the 16,000 level that was there," Trump said.

GOP Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina criticized the former president's characterization of withdrawal as "wonderful" and "positive," and said leaving Afghanistan would allow the country to become a safe haven for terrorists or lead to civil war.
"We will see if 'General' Trump's withdrawal strategy turns out to be sound national security policy," Graham said.
