Fireworks, Carnival, Food, Beer Await At Westmont Backyard BBQ

WESTMONT, IL — Residents can savor the waning days of summer with carnival rides, a fireworks show, a barbecue competition and more at the three-day Labor Day Weekend Backyard BBQ and Carnival in Westmont. Hosted by the Westmont Lions Club in Ty Warner Park, the festivities run Sept. 3 through Sept. 5. Typically, the festival involves a professional barbecue contest, but the 2021 competition will spotlight amateurs, Lions Club President Bob Fleck said in a news release. "Due to a variety of reasons, the Westmont Lions will not be continuing the annual professional BBQ competition," said Fleck. He added, "However, we will continue our local Backyard BBQ event, which encourages all of our local chefs to come out and participate in this fun, amateur competition." Below is a roundup of the activities planned for each day of the Backyard BBQ and Carnival. Sept. 3 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday's festivities will feature carnival rides, food trucks and craft vendors. Sept. 4 from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. On Saturday, carnival goers can get a wristband for $25 to enjoy unlimited rides from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Regular prices apply after 4 p.m. The festival's amateur barbecue competition will take place Saturday. Food truck vendors will also be on hand, as will a beer truck and craft vendors. At 6 p.m., St. Jupiter will perform live music ahead of a fireworks show that kicks off at 8 p.m. Sept. 5 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. The final day of the Backyard BBQ and Carnival features carnival rides and craft vendors.
