Press release from Mentor Public Library : August 31, 2021 Our resident historian Dr. John Foster will share the third lecture in his year-long series on The Vietnam Wars at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23, at our Main Branch. He'll look at the period from the end of the French war in Indochina to the fall of Ngo Dinh Diem's government in 1963. He'll also track the United States' growing involvement in the region and explain how the conflict in Vietnam came to dominate American foreign policy and domestic affairs. Both of the previous lectures in Foster's series can be viewed in their entirety on our website: In addition to being a reference librarian, Foster has a doctorate degree in history. He has taught history at both high school and college levels. Previously, he has led series on the Battles of World War II, the Cold War, the American Revolution and US Presidents of the 20th Century at the library.
