MICHIGAN—A federal judge on Tuesday has put a temporary halt to Western Michigan University's vaccine mandate for student athletes, according to a report from The Detroit News.
The 14-day pause on Western's vaccine mandate was issued by U.S. District Judge Paul Maloney and said that Western's mandate "is not justified by a compelling interest and is not narrowly tailored," The Detroit News said.
Four students on the university's soccer team filed a suit on Monday challenging the school's vaccine mandate on religious grounds, after they were told they would be kicked off the team permanently if they remained unvaccinated by Tuesday, The Detroit News said.
