Get a crash course in negative thinking patterns and how to combat them with self compassion. Improv for Healing presents students with an opportunity for connection. Through examining different types of distorted thinking (thinking that leads to a negative mood) participants gain clarity and mindfulness in regards to their patterns in day to day life. Students will utilize distorted thinking patterns to strengthen their improv skills. By practicing reflective listening, communication, and validation of others, this class will create an environment of resilience, introspection, and healing. Through speaking to our truth and becoming aware of our shortcomings, we seek to understand ourselves and present an opportunity for growth, for intimacy, and for a deeper comprehension of what it means to be human. The exercises in this class will create a gentle awareness of what we have control over and what we don’t, using the medium of improvisation as a tool for exploration and reflection. Above all we expect participants to be kind to one another, be kind to themselves, and remain supportive of the other participants. Our mutual support takes the place of the need to be funny; together we will find our laughs in our shared experiences. We seek to define what does healing mean to us? How can we see the positive growth moments in the tiny moments of connection and success. No prior experience with performing or improv comedy is required for Improv For Healing. Participants must be 18 years old or older. Please note: Although Improv for Healing was designed and will be run with the supervision of a licensed therapist, this class is not to be considered therapy and should not be taken as a replacement for therapy.
