Join us for Kent State's Peace Education Conference at the Kent State Hotel and Conference Center Sept 17 & Sept 18th!
The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly. Two decades later, in 2001, the General Assembly unanimously voted to designate the Day as a period of non-violence and cease-fire. The theme for this year’s International Day of Peace is ‘Peace Education for an Equitable and Sustainable World: Local and Global Perspectives’. As part of our contribution to the Day of Peace, the Gerald H. Read Center for International and Intercultural Education and the School of Peace and Conflict Studies at Kent State University will be holding a keynote talk and reception and a one-day workshop on the theme of ‘Peace Education for an Equitable and Sustainable World: Local and Global Perspectives’. On Friday September 17th at 5PM at the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center, Dr. Barbara Wein and Mainlehwon Vonhm will speak on the importance of peace education, followed by a reception. On Saturday the 18th beginning at 9AM, several workshops will discuss peace education in practice, culminating in a teach-in by Barbara Wein and Mainlehwon Vohm. Lunch and snacks will be provided. There is no cost to attend the reception or workshops.
