WILMINGTON, MA — A motorcyclist died Sunday morning after colliding with a car on Interstate 93 South, according to the Massachusetts State Police.
Troopers responded to the fatal crash shortly after 5 a.m.
Officers said a preliminary investigation showed that a 46-year-old woman from Salem, New Hampshire was driving a 2015 Harley Davidson XL1200 motorcycle when her bike collided with a a 2016 Nissan Maxima in the left lane.
Troopers said the female biker sustained serious injuries and was transported to Lahey Clinic in Burlington where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Nissan driver, a 30-year-old man from Salem, New Hampshire, was uninjured, police said.
"The name of the victim will not be released at this time," MA State Police said in a news release. "The facts and circumstances of the crash are under investigation including how the two vehicles collided."
The right two lanes of the southbound side were closed for approximately 2.5 hours due to the crash, police said.
It remains under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police along with the Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, and Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers were assisted on scene by MassDOT, the Wilmington Fire Department and Wilmington Police Department.
